Three drills backwards (Amy Brolsma)

Amy‘s video is a continuation of her earlier one, found here. In this video, Amy teaches the swizzle warmup going backwards, really making sure that the feet come together and not just the knees.

Amy addresses the location of where on the blade the athlete should be pressing.  Oftentimes players have no clue which part of the blade they should be using when.  Paying attention to this will help greatly with balance issues – “Toe box will make them fall.”

To make a game of staying level, Amy has the skaters do the backward hockey shuffle while holding the stick in the cross checking position.

The final drill in this three-drill video is a backwards slalom. Amy likes to demonstrate just how much their skates need to lean over to get the edge.
