In this video Amy works with elite level skaters to increase efficiency and added power to every aspect of their skating. Her goal is to help them get to the puck as fast as possible.
The first drill has the skaters exploding off their toe while holding an inside edge, then hopping. She reminds them to drive their knee through on the jumps to “cover the ice” rather than go for height.
On the outside edge version of the drill, Amy has them be pigeon-toed while jumping off the pinky toe. The players then do the drills backward which proves to be more of a challenge.
The second half of the video includes mohawks to help with the transitions from forward to backward. Amy states, “Each push that you don’t get speed is a wasted push.” Gathering speed on each step and push is Amy’s goal.
