Katrina ‘s video is a progression from the two-foot to one-foot powerpulls in her last video. Here she uses a puck under her skate while moving down the line doing powerpulls.
She keeps the hockey puck out in front while the “skating foot chases the free foot.” Keeping the shoulders still and straight with the head up, the upper body stays quite still. Ideally the students will do this drill on one foot the entire width of the rink and return on the other foot.
Next up are the backwards powerpulls. Katrina has the skaters first practice on two feet while keeping the boots together and the head up. Alternate picking up each foot white moving down the line.
When adding the hockey puck, a common issue is the skater can tip forward off the front of their skate. The key is to bend the knees and keep the weight on the middle of the blade. This works the strength of the skating leg.
While this is a difficult drill, it is quite fun and engaging.
