Hip Flexors & Posture (Renae Sundgren)

In this private lesson with a young skater, Renae has assessed that his hip flexors are tight. This is important to address to ensure that the athlete can open their hips to create clean edges.

Renae puts a resistance band around the boy’s waste while he tries to march away from her pushing off his inside edges. She reminds him to emphasize keeping his ribs up and use his arms as if he was running. His feet tend to want to point forward so she reminds him to keep them open.

To create more of a visual for him to aim for, Renae has him hold his stick overhead while stepping over lines on the ice.

This is a unique and fun way for the skater to immediately feel more power generation on the ice.
