Stride Exercise Pt. 2 (Kathleen Gazich)

This video is a continuation of Kathleen’s semi-private lesson. She has the skaters perform a one foot stop with a ‘load and explode.’ This movement takes them back and forth. The skaters needs to remember to straighten their pushing foot to get full power and use their full blade.

Next they focus on a long, slow, continuous stride to help them feel the full movement. Kathleen reminds the skaters to keep their body up without tilting too far forward, and to let the glide ‘take you somewhere down the ice.’ The concept is to let the push propel them.

Lastly, they focus on quick starts and full speed skating to the blue line. Kathleen mentions that the first three strides needs to be quite quick, and the skater should establish their full speed and length around the fourth stride.
