Diane Ness leads a group of advanced skaters in a challenge to get as low as they possibly can while striding. She states that skaters are never as low as they think they are so she recommends her assistant to record them.
The skaters need to keep pushing down but remember the power of the glide in the stride.
The immediate feedback on the ipad gives the skaters the opportunity to see themselves and make corrections the second time they try the exercise. Diane reminds them to push straight out to the side, and keep it smooth.
Noticing the strides look static, they reinforce to concept that the gliding leg will go out to the side during a good push. Once the skaters engage their arms a bit more the low stride becomes more smooth and less stiff.
Lastly, Diane reminds the older skaters that this is a very hard drill. They need to relax and continue to practice this time after time.
