When to Train (Jackie Brenner)

In this short video, Jackie discusses two things. First, the benefit of heavily training hockey skating during the summer. It’s harder during the season to focus on changing your skating, your body gait and movement.

During the season, ideally a skater would just have to do check-ins regarding skating skills – make sure the shoulders are back and the body is down low. With kids starting checking around the ages of 13+ (at least in the US), center of gravity is essential. This leads Jackie into her second point of the video.

Skaters needs to remember the low, athletic stance while still being able to ‘unweight’ the blade so that they can still work on agility and different turns.
