In this semi-private lesson, Kathleen starts the skaters off by holding a mohawk around an entire circle then striding straight up the line.
She demonstrates how she wants them to hold the edges both directions, take three strides, then make another circle in the opposite direction. The whole purpose is to put them in an unusual balancing position and seeing if they can ‘load and explode’ off the stride.
Keeping shoulders into the circle the gathering the feet together for the stride is key. This is the first time her students have tried this drill and we can observe problems that might arise.
