Forward Skiing and Power Pulls (Kathleen Gazich)

Kathleen is working with a couple of students in this semi-private lesson. Starting with forward skiing on two feet, she wants the athletes to get the down-up motion. The knee action should generate the power while the heads should stay a little more steady.

The biggest mistake kids make is to turn it too tight so they don’t travel or gain speed. They need to rock back on the blade to generate speed.

Next, they do one foot power pulls on both feet. To reinforce the concept, Kathleen has the skaters practice twisting on one foot to feel the edges, hip turn and knee bend. This exercise can be difficult but will help with the movement down the ice.
