This is a continuation of a private lesson Elizabeth is giving a hockey ref. Using the bar, she wants him to hold a V position while touching the top of his legs to the bar.
Adjusting the bar to hit about mid-shin, Elizabeth had her athlete hold each pose for 10 seconds each round. She reminds him to breathe steadily.
Elizabeth explains that even though the athlete isn’t picking up a load, his heart rate will elevate and it will tax the body while strengthening tendons and ligaments.
Next the student lifts one leg and reaches his hands forward at an angle. This works his core and quads and Elizabeth reminds him to extend his core upward.
The last position is a side plank lifting the hip into the bar. Elizabeth discourages the “this is challenging enough” mentality when athletes start to sag in the position.
This athlete makes these drills look easy, and beginner students might need smaller steps and more instruction.
