This is the final video of Kelly’s warm-up series, which started with this video.
Now he discusses having the skaters skate his warm-up moves backward. They must get used to the difference in rotation and the awareness of where you are in the rink.
Back crossovers can be done with keeping their feet on the ice the whole time if they wish, which Kelly says is actually harder. As he demonstrates, when done properly he can propel himself down the ice with only a handful of back crossovers.
Kelly outlines his entire warm-up sequence, which he says takes about eight minutes for a class to do.
Even if his students can’t get the backwards skating, Kelly says that what is most important is to just keep them moving. Technical breakdown can be discussed at the beginning, but not during the warm-up.
