Kalli Funk, a coach and professional hockey player, discusses “the importance of edges in the game of hockey.” Kalli starts with a basic demonstration of which edges are which, mentioning the location of each the sound they make.
Starting on the line, Kalli points out that pushing off a flat blade results in not much distance covered, but using the inside edge to push off creates momentum.
Outside edges are “good especially when we want to turn.” Kalli describes a few examples when outside edges are useful for changing direction quickly when there is no room to stop.
Kalli sums up the video reiterating that “it’s really important to be comfortable and know the difference between our inside and outside edges and feel when we are not in control of them.
