Katrina introduces an edge drill that uses the blue line (or you could draw your own line if you only have one corner of the rink to skate in.)
The first segment of the drill has the athlete standing tall, with feet together and head up moving their blades back and forth from inside to outside edges. Maybe students will try to cheat by separating their feet.
Breaking it down into minute detail, Katrina makes sure to tell her students exactly where they should be feeling their weight on the blade when they push forward or backward.
Skiers is the next progression of the drill which emphasizes the push and rise of the knees while the body stays low. It’s important that the athlete keeps the boots together to get the benefit of the drill.
