In this video, Joe is working with a 14 year old, 6AAA T1 hockey player. Here, we see him going through some warms ups at the beginning of her lesson.
First is an inside edge with touching the ice. Joe has her go around cones as a way to regulate how long she needs to glide on an edge. He reminds her to only do one solid push out, and to keep a steady rhythm.
The drill progresses to outside edges around the cones, with a centering in between each edge. Then, Joe has her do the drill with keeping both feet on the ice while sinking into it with the chest up. “No ripping through” Joe says, “You should feel the glide across the ice.”
