Joe’s video is part two of a warm up for an elite level skater. Using the cones again, he has his athlete skating in motions as if she’s scanning the ice during gameplay. He tailors the movement specifically since she’s right handed, having her keep the stick behind her then in front during the turns.
Turning the shoulders is key, and keeping the elbow down and back. He reminds her not let her shoulders dip.
Next is a speed drill. First holding a backwards inside edge, then push to open up and turn into crossovers before repeating. “Controlled speed” is what Coach Joe is looking for. He reminds her not to lean too far on the front of the skate. They then reverse the drill.
Joe gives the hint to turn the shoulders and eyes, letting them lead throughout the drill.
