Keeping shoulders level pt 2 (Joe Sundgren)

This video is part two of a private lesson Joe gives focusing on level shoulders. He begins by adding a shoulder turn so the skating blade is aiming up ice.

A crucial aspect is keeping the blade flat on the crossover in order to “really move fully” while snapping the shoulders with the stride.

Timing and quickness plays a role in this drill. Practicing this drill is related to how quickly the player needs to change direction during game play instead of slowly moving the stick around with sluggish shoulders.

After a few attempts, Joe points out that the skater needs to rotate his hips after the push which will help his shoulders.

With repetition, feedback and focus the skater makes great improvements.
