Push Pass Off Ice Drill (Elizabeth Mullins)

Elizabeth continues her private off-ice lesson with a hockey referee, focusing on power and training an overall athlete.

Using a large square cone arrangement, Elizabeth has her athlete push-pass a medicine ball into the wall after flip turn. This will utilize hips, glutes and arms. The ball should release while he’s in the air after his flip turn.

Elizabeth wants the ball to be a part of the athlete, ready to release at any time. As her student does the drill, she analyses where his slower parts are and the timing with technique. It’s ok to have a bit more ground contact time during this maneuver.

Reversing direction and arms presents different challenges because the athlete is using his non-dominant hand. Elizabeth adds feedback and slight corrections in order for the student to throw the ball in a straight line at the wall.

Elizabeth takes the time to address every aspect in great detail and we can see in real time the athlete begin to master the drill.
