Standing Outside Edge Exercise

Joe Sundgren starts out helping an advanced skater explore his outside edge. While standing on one leg and leaning to the outside, Joe sees if his student can balance while using the aid of his stick. The hardest part proves to be keeping the shoulders level. As soon as it starts to dip, the skater tends to fall.

Noticing the player’s difficulty, Joe asks him how he laces his skates. They debate the different ways to lace and tie because the player isn’t achieving deep ankle flexion. But ultimately the skater says he likes the way his skates are tied.

The reverse foot proves to be a bit easier for the skater but Joe still reminds him to keep his shoulders level.
