Swizzle Warm Up (Amy Brolsma)

Amy walks us through the warmups she starts all her private lessons with. First are swizzles from one dot to another. She wants to see a solid push with a glide in the low hockey position. Students might not want to pause in a glide so Amy reminds her student to hold that position. This is a great way to warm up the athlete’s body and feel the ice.

The hockey position needs to have knees over toes. If she holds a stick vertically in front of them, Amy wants the knees to push the stick in front of the toe.

Skates also need to stay on the flat edge (no caving in or bow legged) and the middle part of the blade. Ankle position can tell us a lot. Athletes need to push off the middle part of the blade, not too far forward or back.
