Timing Strides (Renae Sundgren)

This clip comes from the end of a private lesson with a younger skater. Renae wants to time the student doing a ‘drag toe’ for the first part of his line down the ice and striding as quickly as he can to the other end. She tracks his time skating between the two hockey circles.

She clocks him at 5.2 seconds with 14 strides. She gives him a challenge to reduce his time with the same number of strides or reducing his strides with the same time. His second run-through is only 4.9 seconds.

This kind of fun drill helps a student feel like they are making tangible progress.
