Transition of Direction (Kalli Funk)

Transitioning while skating is Kalli‘s topic in this video. She explains that hockey is full of transitions which need different techniques depending on the situation.

Straight forward to backward transitions need to avoid a large sideways movement. Knee bends along with hips and feet in synchronous movement are essential.

From backwards to forwards, the fundamentals are similar. It can be done stepping straight up the line or using a crossover, but Kalli discusses why she prefers a crossover to generate more power.

Kalli lastly discusses shoulder position during transitions and the importance of “facing the play that coming on to us” to accept the rush.
