Averie is teaching a young 8U skater three turns in a private lesson. Beginning with outside three turns, Averie wants to see control and eyes up. With beginner skaters, she starts with two foot turns and progresses to one foot turns.
Averie mentions that this maneuver is not something he will ever consciously think about in gameplay, but his body will be able to make this turn automatically should he need it. Some hockey players might give you a hard time if they deem this a ‘figure skating move’ but it can be a great addition to a hockey player’s skating ability.
The next time down the ice, Averie has her student add in a crossover. She reminds him to not use his ‘training wheel’ when he wants to put his free leg down.
