Slalom Drill (Amy Brolsma)

Amy is warming up her athlete with a two foot slalom drill. She wants the feet together with the skates leaning and pushing side to side.

Amy wants to see a clear rising and pushing up motion because that is where the power is generated. She equates this with sitting in a chair and pushing up with both feet.

For students who aren’t strong yet, you’ll see the feet separate as one foot tries to push for the c-cut. Keep the momentum going and keep running the drill as they get more comfortable pushing off the outside edge.

Slaloms backwards requires more bend in the knee, more quad strength and core muscles.  Amy often skates facing them as they perform the drill backwards.
