Amy is teaching a small group class with older players. For their first drill, she has them skate inside edge-crossover-inside edge-crossover. She reminds them to press down and bend for the inside edges. They are trying to drive their knee forward so every push ‘gets an inch more.’
On the way back down the rink they bring a puck along and take a shot at the end. Amy works on lengthening the strides with the skaters and then works on quickness.
The next time the athletes try the drill Amy has them do two fast crossovers in between the inside edge. The focus should be on foot speed, even at the slight sacrifice of technique. She reminds them they might fall, and that is ok.
